Role Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the general ledger activities and leading the month-end and year-end closing processes. This position involves mentoring more junior team members, working on automation and processes improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize general ledger and closing processes.

What can you expect as a Senior Accountant at Scandinavian Tobacco Group? Your primary tasks will be:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the general ledger function on SAP S4 Hana, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions
  • Calculate accruals / provisions, maintain journal entry templates and post entries for the period
  • Review intercompany entries and adjustments, work on intercompany process automation
  • Manage allocation rules and perform cost allocation and distribution in SAP for the period
  • Carry out trial balance scrutiny to identify errors and make adjustments as a part of period-end close process
  • Manage the reconciliation of accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through regular reconciliations and analysis
  • Lead and coordinate the month-end and year-end closing processes in adherence to strict deadlines, support with entity reporting review
  • Calculate and post income tax provision with support from tax operations team
  • Maintain closing task lists, schedules, and SOPs 
  • Perform monthly internal controls in our internal control tool (Impero)
  • Research and provide guidance on complex accounting issues related to the general ledger
  • Provide guidance to more junior team members, helping them develop both technical and soft skills
  • Foster collaboration across teams, including Finance, AP, and AR, to streamline and automate workflows and resolve issues effectively
  • Enhance your and the team knowledge and use of SAP S/4 HANA

 

Your areas of knowledge and expertise (that matter the most for this role):

  • Total relevant closing and reporting experience of 6 years minimum
  • Experience with international scope reporting (outside of Portugal)
  • A degree in accounting, finance or related discipline  
  • Knowledge of SAP (preferably S4 HANA), proficiency in Excel 
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and reporting standards, GAAP and IFRS principles 
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines 
  • Strong communication skills
  • At ease in a startup phase and non-mature environment with missing processes and automations, ability to work on improvements
  • Familiarity with shared service center operations is a plus
