Director of Supply and Production Planning

Position Summary:

This individual is responsible for leading the production planning and master scheduling staff activities for Cigars International, Thompson Cigar, General Cigar, STG Canada, HATSA Honduras, Estelii, Nicaragua, Santiago, and Dominican Republic based businesses.  Responsibilities include leading the supply, material and production planning staff in developing optimized supply plans that meet inventory objectives, while respecting plant production capabilities/constraints/efficiencies and weighing the impacts to the rest of the supply chain, including customer service.

 

Deliverables include developing the weekly S&OE cadence for item production supply needs by plant/line that satisfy the optimal inventory levels and service targets.   The Director of Supply & Production Planning will work with the Director Demand Planning, Plant Managers, and Production Managers to ensure feasible production supply plans are executed.  

 

This individual will be the key interface between the plants and the corporate supply chain group. The Director Supply & Production Planning will develop and execute a supply chain strategy that will meet the changing demands of the businesses in a cost-efficient manner.  This individual will also establish and manage key business processes and procedures to ensure efficient, repeatable, and reliable supply plans that support our internal and external customers worldwide. This individual will be a formal member of internal functional teams to help lead and ensure cross-functional alignment in support of STG’s company goals and initiatives.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Support in developing production supply plan/budget that best meets inventory, costs & service objectives.
  • Develop and communicate production supply plan, plant constraints, and overall inventory targets.
  • Develop and implement processes for rough cut capacity planning
  • Effectively balance production supply plans to minimize costs and maximize customer fill rates.
  • Evaluate gaps between available and required capacity.  Recommend & present required action steps.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing, and plant personnel to determine new product production needs and incorporate into overall supply plans
  • Anticipate and project capacity implications as factors change in the manufacturing arena (i.e. plant improving outputs, demand changes, new item introductions, line improvements, etc.). 
  • Articulate business risks & opportunities to service, liquidation/obsolescence, or other supply chain areas in a proactive manner.  Work with business partners to develop solutions that minimize the risks.
  • Proactively address supply plan interruptions – work with plant staff personnel to communicate product availability
  • Establish strong working relationships with plant resources to enable collaborative problem solving.
  • Establish thorough visual management and continually enhance self-sustaining processes that drive employee involvement and support decision-making at the lowest possible level
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure key deliverables are met – service, costs, and inventory targets.
  • Drive performance improvements in the key indicators for supply chain optimization, including MRP effectiveness, schedule adherence, OTIF, reduced obsolescence and reduced inventory on hand
  • Design and use metrics to improve processes and ensure optimal use of ERP system
  • Attend IBP meetings to represent supply planning.
  • Champion and foster involvement by all levels of the organization of the implementation and maintenance of “Best Practice” processes
  • Enhance teamwork, accountability and drive a sense of urgency throughout entire organization
  • Build and develop a committed team to manage all aspects of area of responsibility

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Business. Master’s Degree preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of principles of production supply planning, inventory management, and forecasting (core APICS supply chain subject areas)
  • Thorough understanding of production capabilities, inventory theory, and cost trade-offs in managing the supply chain
  • Demonstrated problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective action skills
  • Ability to develop strategic direction, goals, and objectives
  • Ability to develop processes, standardize work, and implement best practices across diverse groups and global locations
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics / AX preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, presentation, team building and influencing skills
  • Excellent written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively throughout the organization
  • Capacity to build relationships internally & externally
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proven track record of managing, developing and motivating teams
  • Capable of making independent decisions, work well under pressure and is able to prioritize work
  • Highly motivated, disciplined, and focused individual that pays attention to detail and requires minimal supervision
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred
